The building was originally constructed as a bank branch around the 1940s and was expanded by the Royal Bank of Canada in 1988. The Muslim Association of Canada purchased the property in 2002 to establish a permanent prayer space. The mosque features distinctive window films decorated with Arabic calligraphy for privacy while maintaining the building's original external structure. The congregation successfully paid off the property and later purchased the leased land outright. Masjid Toronto operates with the tagline 'Sharpen The Mind, Elevate The Spirit' and participates in community outreach events such as Doors Open Toronto.
