    Wa layaalin 'ashr

    Dan malam yang sepuluh (yang mempunyai kelebihan di sisi Allah);

    Wash shaf'i wal watr

    Dan bilangan yang genap serta yang ganjil;

  4. 4

    Wallaili izaa yasr

Dan malam, apabila ia berlalu; -

  5. 5

Hal fee zaalika qasamul lizee hijr

Alam tara kaifa fa'ala rabbuka bi'aad

    Iramaa zaatil 'imaad

Allatee lam yukhlaq misluhaa fil bilaad

    Allazeena taghaw fil bilaad

    Fa aksaroo feehal fasaad

  13. 13

    فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ

    Fasabba 'alaihim Rabbuka sawta 'azaab

    Dengan yang demikian, Tuhanmu mencurahkan ke atas mereka berbagai paluan azab;

  14. 14

    Inna Rabbaka labil mirsaad

Sesungguhnya Tuhanmu tetap mengawas dan membalas, (terutama balasan akhirat)

  15. 15

Wa ammaaa izaa mabtalaahu faqadara 'alaihi rizqahoo fa yaqoolu Rabbeee ahaanan

Kalla bal laa tukrimooo nal yateem

    Jangan demikian, (sebenarnya kata-kata kamu itu salah). Bahkan (perbuatan kamu wahai orang-orang yang hidup mewah, lebih salah lagi kerana) kamu tidak memuliakan anak yatim, (malah kamu menahan apa yang Ia berhak menerimanya);

  18. 18

    وَلَا تَحَٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ

    Wa laa tahaaaddoona 'alaata'aamil miskeen

    Dan kamu tidak menggalakkan untuk memberi makanan (yang berhak diterima oleh) orang miskin;

  19. 19

Kallaaa izaaa dukkatil ardu dakkan dakka

Jangan sekali-kali bersikap demikian!

Wa jaaa'a Rabbuka wal malaku saffan saffaa

Dan (perintah) Tuhanmu pun datang, sedang malaikat berbaris-baris (siap sedia menjalankan perintah),

  23. 23

Wa jeee'a yawma'izim bi jahannnam; Yawma 'iziny yatazakkarul insaanu wa annaa lahuz zikraa

    Yaqoolu yaa laitanee qaddamtu lihayaatee

Fa Yawma izil laa yu'azzibu 'azaabahooo ahad

    Yaaa ayyatuhan nafsul mutma 'innah

    Irji'eee ilaa Rabbiki raadiyatam mardiyyah

1. Introduction to Surah Al-Fajr

Surah Al-Fajr is the 89th chapter of the Holy Quran and stands as a visually stunning, emotionally stirring masterpiece of divine revelation. The title Al-Fajr translates directly to "The Dawn," a powerful cosmic metaphor that sets the tone for the entire chapter. Opening with magnificent oaths sworn by the break of dawn and the sacred ten nights, this Surah transitions gracefully from the shadows of historical tyranny to the brilliant light of ultimate spiritual peace and justice.

Revealed during the early Meccan period, this beautiful chapter served as both a stark warning to the proud chieftains of the Quraysh and a profound source of comfort for the early, persecuted Muslims. The society of Makkah at the time was heavily deeply corrupt, marked by materialistic greed, severe oppression of the vulnerable, and an arrogant denial of accountability. Through this revelation, Allah reminded humanity that no empire, wealth, or physical strength can ever stand above the majestic authority and justice of the Creator.

2. Key Themes and Lessons of Surah Al-Fajr

Delving deeply into the text reveals that Surah Al-Fajr elegantly addresses the rise and fall of civilizations, human psychology under trial, and the beautiful destiny of a serene spirit. The core themes highlighted in this chapter include:

  • The Fate of Arrogant Nations: The Surah recalls the historical downfalls of mighty civilizations—the people of 'Ad with their lofty pillars, Thamud who carved fortresses into rocks, and Pharaoh of the stakes. Despite their immense power, their tyranny led to their destruction.
  • The Trial of Wealth and Poverty: It critiques the fluctuating human ego, noting how a person feels honored when blessed with wealth but instantly despairs and complains of neglect when their provisions are restricted.
  • Social Injustice and Neglect: The text strongly rebukes those who mistreat orphans, refuse to encourage the feeding of the poor, consume inheritances greedily, and possess an uncontrolled love for material wealth.
  • The Serene Soul (Al-Nafs Al-Mutma'innah): The chapter ends with one of the most comforting passages in the Quran, calling out to the peaceful, tranquil soul to return to its Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing, to enter paradise.
