1. Introduction to Surah Al-Alaq

Surah Al-Alaq is one of the most significant chapters in the Holy Quran because it contains the very first verses revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is the 96th chapter of the Quran and consists of 19 verses. Revealed in Makkah during the earliest stage of the Prophet’s mission, the opening verses were sent by Allah through Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) while the Prophet ﷺ was worshipping in the Cave of Hira. The Surah begins with the famous command, "Read" or "Recite" (Iqra), highlighting the importance of knowledge, learning, and understanding in Islam. The name "Al-Alaq" translates to "The Clinging Substance" or "The Clot," referring to the early stages of human creation mentioned in the Surah.

Alongside its focus on learning, Surah Al-Alaq also warns against arrogance, self-sufficiency, and rejecting divine guidance. Through its powerful message, the Surah reminds believers that true knowledge should lead to humility, gratitude, and obedience to Allah.
